Royal Delft Covered Jars (De Porceleyne Fles)
Measurements 7 1/2" high, 2 1/2" wide. Covered jars are a very traditional delftware item. They were used as armoire decoration, tobacco containers, and tea jars, among other things. They make a very thoughtful gift idea. A certificate of authenticity is included with this item.
Founded in 1635, De Porceleyne Fles (The Porcelain Jar) is the Netherland's most famous delft factory. Most visits to the city of Delft include a factory tour of this great company. Of the dozens of original 17th century Dutch pottery makers, only De Porceleyne Fles remains in operation. Collectors know that delftware produced by De Porceleyne Fles, (also known as Royal Delft,) is recognized to be the standard against which all delftware is judged. Each piece is coded with: the factory mark, an item number, the artist's initials, a date code.
